Use Okta Personal for websites with two-factor authentication
If you’d like to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) on a website or app, you can use Okta Personal as an authenticator to verify your identity. Once set up, every 30 seconds Okta Personal generates 6-digit time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs).
Set up two-factor authentication for an item in Okta Personal
First, you'll need to set up two-factor authentication on the website or app. Navigate to the website or app’s security features to turn on two-factor authentication. Once complete, complete the process on Okta Personal.
- Unlock Okta Personal on mobile.
- Add a new login item or tap Edit on an existing item you’d like to secure.
- Tap Add two-factor authentication.
- Scan QR code and scan the code on the website or app. If you can’t scan the QR code, you have the option to Enter key manually.
- Tap Save.
Sign in and authenticate with Okta Personal two-factor authentication
On a website where you’re using two-factor authentication, enter your username and password. When prompted, copy the one-time password to complete the sign in process.
Remember: The one-time passwords rotate every 30 seconds. Make sure it doesn’t expire before you're able to enter it in the website you’re trying to sign in to.
Mobile
- From your mobile device, open your Okta Personal vault.
- Select an item to open the details.
- Tap the Copy icon and paste the one-time code into the website or app when prompted. Or, manually enter the code into the website.
Desktop
- From your desktop, open your Okta Personal vault.
- Select an item to open the details.
- Click the Copy icon and paste the one-time code into the website or app when prompted. Or, manually enter the code into the website.
Plugin
- From your desktop, click the Okta Browser Plugin in your browser.
- Select an item, and click the three dots icon.
- Click Copy 2FA code and paste the one-time code into the website or app when prompted. Or, manually enter the code into the website.
